Francesco Borrelli is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Chair at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his `Laurea` degree in computer science engineering from the University of Naples `Federico II’ in 1998 and his PhD from the Automatic Control Laboratory at ETH-Zurich in 2002. His research interests include model predictive control and its application to automated driving, robotics, food and energy systems. He is the author of over one hundred fifty publications and the book Predictive Control published by Cambridge University Press. He has received several awards, including the 2009 NSF CAREER Award and the 2012 IEEE Control System Technology Award. He is also the founder and CTO of BrightBox Technologies Inc, which was acquired by Flex, Inc. in 2016.
