Regular biography
Professor Emilio Artacho is affiliated with the Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge. He joined the university in 2001, initially in the Department of Earth Sciences, where he was appointed Professor in 2006. In 2011, he moved to the Cavendish Laboratory. Prior to Cambridge, he served as associate professor in condensed matter physics in Madrid. He has held visiting positions, including as Invited Professor at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon (1999) and Visiting Miller Professor at the University of California at Berkeley (2007). He is also an Ikerbasque Research Professor at Nanogune in San Sebastian, Spain. His research focuses on theoretical and computational simulation of far from equilibrium processes in condensed matter, including non-adiabatic processes in irradiated matter, multiferroics, and wet systems. He co-developed the SIESTA program for linear-scaling first-principles calculations.
