Mark E. Bier

Mark E. Bier is a Research Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on analytical, spectroscopy, biophysical, and environmental analytical methods, with an emphasis on instrumentation development for mass spectrometry. His work includes membrane inlet mass spectrometry, ionization source technologies, and superconducting tunnel junction cryodetection. Bier is the Director of the Center for Molecular Analysis and has contributed to advancements in heavy ion mass spectrometry and nanoparticle analysis.
