Regular biography
Kyle Shen is the James A. Weeks Professor of Physical Sciences and Director of the Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics at Cornell University's Department of Physics. He is also a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow. His research focuses on emergent electronic and magnetic properties in quantum materials, including high-temperature superconductivity, unconventional magnetism, and metal-insulator transitions. Shen's work explores how these properties can be controlled through interfacial engineering, heterostructuring, epitaxial strain, and dimensional confinement in artificially engineered quantum materials. His research employs techniques such as molecular beam epitaxy, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, and synchrotron-based x-ray probes.
