Yong-Ling Ruan

Professor Yong-Ling Ruan is a member of the Research School of Biology at The Australian National University. His research focuses on discovering genes and mechanisms that control resource and energy allocation between and within plant cells and organs, with the aim of improving growth, yield, resilience, and biodiversity. He investigates how sugar metabolism, transport, and signaling regulate plant development and stress responses, and identifies regulatory genes and signals controlling carbon nutrient distribution. His work has contributed to understanding molecular networks involved in resource partitioning during evolution and domestication. Prof Ruan has published extensively in leading journals and is currently an editor of several scientific publications.

Prof Yong-Ling Ruan is a CJ Laureate Professor at Northwest A & F University and Honorary Professor at Australian National University. Her research focuses on Plant Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, and Carbon Metabolism & Transport. Her work explores the role of sucrose metabolism in plant development, yield potential, and stress responses. She investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying sugar signaling, invertase activity, and carbon partitioning in crops such as cotton and tomato. Her studies highlight the importance of sucrose synthase and invertase in regulating cell growth, seed development, and fruit quality. By understanding these processes, her research aims to enhance crop productivity and food security.
