Allen Zhengyu Wen

Allen (Zhengyu) Wen is a plant synthetic biologist affiliated with The Australian National University's Research School of Biology. His research focuses on engineering biological systems to enable breakthroughs in plant science, with an emphasis on designing, building, and optimising biological systems to achieve outcomes beyond traditional breeding. Dr. Wen's work includes developing gene-edited maize lines with resistance to maize lethal necrosis, contributing to food security in sub-Saharan Africa. He is currently the Head of the ANU node of Plant SynBio Australia, where he leads efforts to build a world-class synthetic biology and automation facility to strengthen Australia’s plant science ecosystem.
